With 95 million images shared on Instagram alone every day, it can be hard to make your shots stand out. But don’t fret – because the Samsung Galaxy S25 can help.
It’s easily one of the best camera phones in the world, and is packed with special modes and smart tricks to improve your images – such as specific food modes, a dedicated Pro Mode with a bunch of extra settings, and AI-based tools such as incredible super-resolution zoom and instant slow-motion video.
One of our favourite features, though, is the incredible Photo Assist.
Here’s why we love it.
Pretty as a picture
Photo Assist** is a sort of umbrella term for a series of suggested edits that Galaxy S25 will recommend after you’ve taken a picture, including potential generative AI tweaks, cropping changes, and more.
Generative AI*** features for image creation are nothing new, but the magic of Photo Assist lies not just in the quality of its results, but also in how well it dovetails with the rest of Samsung’s Galaxy AI ecosystem.
At its core, Samsung’s Photo Assist is a playground of sorts. Rather than generate a whole image, it allows users to take a picture of something – a particularly comfortable chair, say – then scribble something on top of it to see a result using the included S Pen for extra precision.
A crude drawing of a dog, for example, might result in an adorable puppy appearing, convincingly placing its paws on the arm of the chair.
It’s the kind of feature that’s a dream for creative kids, as well as adults who need visual assets in a hurry. Plus, while some image creation models require a whole new prompt to edit, which requires starting the process again, Samsung allows users to grab the subject they’ve created and move them around, resizing them as they see fit.
That means the small puppy can become as big as Godzilla, or as tiny as a Tic Tac, all while looking realistic on the Samsung Galaxy S25’s gorgeous 6.2-inch AMOLED display.
You can also use Photo Assist in the phone’s Portrait Studio mode, which lets you turn yourself into a cartoon, manga, sketch, or more.
That’s not all, either – because Photo Assist also offers a series of edits**** after you’ve taken a shot. If you’re anything like me and tend to rely on the same half a dozen presets, this could be a great way to break you out of your Instagram comfort zone and try something new. Gone are the days of having to capture the perfect photo in the moment every time.
How to use Photo Assist
Naturally, all of this power could be overwhelming, but Samsung has done a great job of making Photo Assist easy to use.
Head to Settings, then Galaxy AI, then Photo Assist to turn the feature on. Now, when you’re in the Gallery app, open a picture and tap the Photo Assist icon to get started.
There’s an AI watermark included, too, as Samsung works to help identify generative content.
