Paramount has announced yet another Sonic the Hedgehog movie, scheduling a “Sonic universe feature” for release in theaters on December 22, 2028.
The fourth entry in the main Sonic film series is scheduled for March 2027, and this newly announced film will follow the next year, according to Deadline. Exactly what the movie is, however, is unconfirmed. All that Paramount confirmed is that it exists in the Sonic universe.
The three Sonic movies thus far have together brought in more than $1.2 billion globally, so it’s no surprise to see Paramount dig in for even more. A Knuckles TV show spin-off for Paramount+ was released in 2024. There is no word yet on if it will get a second season.
Paramount, which was recently taken over by David Ellison’s Skydance, is now among the bidders for Warner Bros. Discovery, but it remains to seen if a deal will materialize.
Beyond the Sonic movie franchise, Paramount is making a live-action Call of Duty movie with Activision. Ellison, the son of billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison, is a big fan of Call of Duty and is bringing on Hell or High Water’s Taylor Sheridan to co-write the script. Peter Berg, who wrote and directed the war movie Lone Survivor, is attached to direct the Call of Duty movie at Paramount.
2027 is shaping up to be a big year for video game movies. After Sonic 4 in March 2027 will come the live-action Zelda movie in May 2027 and then A Minecraft Movie 2 in July 2027.
