The early hours of Black Ops 7 Beta have landed some players (myself included) in a pickle, where the game crashes at launch, resulting in the error code 0x3.
This error code isn’t new if you have played older Call of Duty titles. It’s a standard error code that appears if you’re trying to play from the Xbox app on PC and the game crashes. Thankfully, there are a few solutions to try if you encounter the problem.
How to solve the ‘game has crashed’ error in Black Ops 7 Beta
There can be multiple reasons why Black Ops 7 Beta could crash while trying to launch from the Xbox app.
- Dual sources: The source of my crash appeared to be having Call of Duty installed from the Xbox app (Game Pass) and Steam (PC beta code). The beta doesn’t seem to operate correctly if you have it installed or accidentally run it from both sources. If you’re encountering error code 0x3 in particular, try uninstalling the game from Steam (only if you have beta access from two sources).

Here’s a list of alternate solutions, as recommended by Microsoft.
- Updating the graphics driver can help, especially if you haven’t done so recently. You can do this directly using your PC’s Nvidia/AMD app.
- Use the Gaming Services Repair tool within the Xbox app to repair a game. If any critical file is missing, the tool will automatically reinstall it without any issues.
- Ensure you have installed Windows 10 22H2 or a newer version to prevent crashes. Otherwise, you may encounter multiple issues.
The steps mentioned here should solve any crashes that might arise when you try to launch Black Ops 7 beta from the Xbox app. If you can start the game, but it crashes when you try to load a match, it could result from hardware issues.
