Helldivers 2’s latest Warbond, Masters of Ceremony, breaks Arrowhead’s own ruling on helmets with hats, but it’s still left a pretty lukewarm initial impression

Helldivers 2’s lastest Warbond has just arrived. It’s dubbed Masters of Ceremony, is going for what in my eyes is a very World War One-ish look, and has earned fairly mixed reviews from players at first glance.

That could have a lot to do with the fact Arrowhead’s been going pretty hard on the teases since announcing when this Warbond would be revealed ahead of time. However, it looks like there are plenty of frustrations about the content itself that might have surfaced regardless of what was happening Galactic War-wise.

Right, what’s Arrowhead cooked up with this Warbond? Well, as detailed in the PlayStation Blof postthe theme is very vintage, with dress armours and even a sabre having been uncorked to add to loadouts. “To celebrate the eradication of the Illuminate invaders, Super Earth mobilizes our most regal looking troops yet – a true celebration of our forebears,” Arrowhead’s Mitchell Ayre wrote.

To that end, the studio’s made available the RE-1861 Parade Commander light armour set & RE-2310 Honorary Guard medium set, with both being very swanky and boasting a “Reinforced Epaulettes perk” designed to help you avoid having your flag-waving limbs break. Hold the phone, though. The Parade Commander set features what very much looks like a military cap on top of a helmet, adding yet another stike to the record of a studio which previously didn’t add in a cowboy hat with the last Warbond because it because “people don’t wear hats on helmets”.

Helldivers. Today we salute the brave, celebrate glorious victories, and honour our fearless forebears.

And we do it in style with the new Masters of Ceremony Premium Warbond – featuring the finest vintage armour, timeless tools of war, new Stratagem, emote and more. Available… pic.twitter.com/Ldoaqm6O5X

Anyway, this Warbond also comes with one primary weapon – the bayoneted R-2 Amendment – and a secondary weapon in the aforementioned CQC-2 Sabre, which understandably looks to be the bit folks are most excited about. Aside from that, there’s the G-142 Pyrotech Grenade, a stratagem the lets you patriotically wave the Super Earth flag, and a sample scanner booster.

All in all, the immediate response to it from players on the socials looks to be pretty mixed. “Tbh, this looks mostly useless…AND I F**KING WANT IT” one comment in a Reddit thread that pretty much sums up the sentiment. The bond looks cool in the eyes of plenty of these folks, and that’s been enough to earn a thumbs up from them, but others aren’t impressed with the practical elements of the new gear, such as the armour perk and the passive.

“I am absolutely not a fan of how each warbond has less stuff each time but stays the same price,” one user wrote, while multiple others have dubbed it “underwhelming”.

We’ll have to see what the verdict is once everyone’s had a chance to give the new gear a go, but it certainly looks like there’ll be mass grumbling if Arrowhead doesn’t whip out another update soonish.
