Everyone is jumping into fast XP farms in Battlefield 6 because it takes too damn long to unlock stuff – and EA is cracking down on it

Battlefield 6 is here. It’s breaking series records, and everyone is generally happy with the quality of the launch build. Once players cleared the long log-in queues and started diving in, however, they realised what the media and content creators have been feeling during the review period: the game’s XP grind is just too slow.

This is true for general career progression, but it is especially brutal for weapon progression. As we point out in our Battlefield 6 tips, it’s going to take most players many hours to level up one weapon and get a moderate number of core attachments.

But there’s a solution. Sort of.

Just as quickly as they started getting frustrated by the exceptionally low weapon XP earn rate in Battlefield 6, clever players started devising solutions. The game’s Portal mode allows anyone to create a server with custom rules.

These can offer slight modifications on existing maps and modes – such as an infantry-only variant of Conquest, or a server that runs a specific map 24/7. But custom servers can also be used to practice against bots, or create an impromptu co-op game for you and your friends where you can turn BF6 into a PvE shooter.

If you don’t modify too many of the rules, the game will award full XP to anyone playing on your Portal server. That includes Challenge tracking, as well as normal career and weapon/vehicle progression.

This has lead to players creating servers with obscene ticket limits, small-ish maps and lots of bots. These XP farms aren’t entirely new to Battlefield; the same idea has – and continues to exist – in Battlefield 2042’s Portal to this day.

Breakthrough appears to be the mode of choice for these XP farms, thanks to its high player count and condensed play spaces, which maximises efficiency vs time spent. Players have also been using the same servers to finish some of the most situational Challenges the game requires in order for new class Training Paths (essentially variants) to be unlocked, as well as for late weapon unlocks.

Over the weekend, many of these servers started popping up. In fact, a few content creators – as well as random players on Reddit – have been sharing their Experience Code so that others can join their servers. And if you didn’t want to join others’, you were simply able to create your own.

Servers got slammed as a result, and players started running into the “Global Game Quota Exceeded” error messagewhich prevents you from starting new Portal servers. EA also started shutting down some of the more egregious XP farms, though setting one up remains possible.

One could only hope that Battlefield Studios gets the right message from this situation, and increases the XP earn rate across the board, but especially the weapon XP rate. For now, if you can find them, those Breakthrough bot servers with 1,000 tickets are the best way to unlock weapon attachments and level up.

Until then, you’ve got more to learn about the intricacies of the mechanics with the help of our Battlefield 6 gameplay tips. And, if you haven’t already, make sure to change these settings in your own game because they’re going to make a world of difference.
