For as long as iPhones have been around, their cameras have always utilized fixed aperture lenses while Android competitors have implemented variable aperture solutions on their flagships for a number of years. It seems Apple may finally be ready to join the variable aperture club as ET News reports that an industry supply source has confirmed the change is coming with the iPhone 18 series.
Apple has allegedly selected Sunny Optical as its primary variable aperture lens supplier and is ready to implement the solution with next year’s iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This is not the first time we’ve heard about variable aperture on the iPhone 18 series as there have been rumors dating back to last year.

The 18 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to feature the same design and size as the 17 series, with a recent rumor also suggesting a transparent design on the back. By the way, Samsung is also expected to bring the variable aperture on its Galaxy S26 Ultra.
